Cargo ships attacked off Romania as Greek vessel sinks off Bulgaria

Reuters said at least seven cargo vessels were hit off Romania and Bulgaria in two weeks after a Greek container ship sank following a three-drone strike.

A Greek container ship sank off Bulgaria after three drones struck it on Oct. 28, France 24 reported. The outlet said the drones may have been Russian and set the sinking against growing concern over commercial shipping as the Russia-Ukraine conflict continues. France 24 published its report on Oct. 30, two days after the sinking.

Reuters separately reported that at least seven cargo vessels had been attacked in waters off Romania and Bulgaria within a two-week period. The outlet said reports put the number of sailors killed or missing at roughly 30.

European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas previously said six attacks involving suspected Russian drones had occurred in 10 days. She accused the Kremlin of seeking to reduce Ukraine's income from grain exports and linked the shipping threat to that source of revenue, EconoTimes reported earlier.
