Romanian authorities are investigating a fire that broke out on 14 September 2026 on an industrial platform in Brașov, near the Carfil arms factory. According to the SRI and DIICOT, the blaze was allegedly caused by a sabotage network coordinated from Russia.

Three foreign nationals, two Belarusians and one Ukrainian, are under investigation. Two have been arrested in Germany, and the third has been located in Poland. Authorities say the network also targeted other industrial and strategic sites in Romania and in other European states.

The stated aim of such actions would be to intimidate European states and discourage support for Ukraine. The allegations are part of an ongoing investigation, and the suspects’ criminal liability is to be decided by the courts, according to information presented by the SRI.
